Wonderland Fancy Dress aka Jennie
What do you make?
Dressing up outfits and accessories (crowns, masks, wands, capes etc) for children. What inspires you? Nothing makes me happier than knowing that children are having fun while they are playing! Dressing up is an ideal way for a child to stretch their imagination during role play, which plays a very vitally important part in their learning and developmental journey. I love coming up with different ideas for the costumes and accessories. Bespoke outfits normally frighten the life out of me - but once I get going, I love rising to the challenge! |
How did you begin your making journey?
I first started making simple dressing up outfits for my own children about 32 years ago. I then branched out and started to make outfits to sell at schools and craft fairs - this was something I could do from home to be with my own young children, but make myself a little bit of money at the same time! All those years ago there was no competition from supermarkets or online companies! Once my children had started at school I took up full time employment as an Early Years Practitioner and put my trusty sewing machine into semi retirement. I rekindled my 'sewing journey' when I retired 2 years ago.
What is your favourite thing to make?
I love making the crowns. It is such fun working with glitter felt (my house is constantly covered in glitter) and I love coming up with different themes for them.
Do you ever have crafting disasters?
Constantly! I tend to be far more ambitious then my very basic skills will allow.
If you had a crafting wish, what would it be
I would love to have my own little shop/workshop where I could have a totally organised and fully equipped work space and a little shop to sell all my wears.
