Up Sourcery aka Clare Plummer
What do you make?
One-of-a-kind dangly earrings, cachepots, embellished cachepots and twinkly lightjars using a mix of interesting bits and pieces I’ve found while out and about, and beautiful beads rescued from discarded necklaces etc. I also make wine cork trivets that could also be used as ‘stepping stones’ for the garden.
What inspires you?
My initial inspiration came from watching Sarah Moore’s Money for Nothing’ TV program – reusing and repurposing is one of my chief motivators, so if I can reuse or repurpose something to stop it going into landfill, I’m a happy bunny.
How did you begin your making journey?
I’ve always been fond of fixing stuff but a few years ago, my wife was getting rid of some old bracelets she was no longer wearing but she really liked the beads. So, rather than try to fix the bracelets, I repurposed the beads into some dangly earrings for her. I also developed a bottletop obsession and started making funky bottletop earrings and fridge magnets.
What is the favourite thing you make?
I love the cachepot embellishment process – it can be really messy and each one is truly a labour of love. I never quite know how they’re going to turn out but transforming a boring old pot into a unique cachepot cheers me up.
Do you ever have crafting disasters?
Of course! Using the wrong glue has had repercussions. I’ve yet to create a masterpiece from my mistakes but you never know!
If you had a crafting wish, what would it be?
I know I’m not alone in this but I work off our dining room table. I would love a dedicated space where I could make as much mess as I like and not have to tidy up afterwards! My creativity comes in spurts and really wains if I have to tidy up just as I get really stuck into a new project…
