Daphne
What do you make?
I make children’s clothes including dresses, skirts and bibs. I also make aprons for both children and adults.
What inspires you?
I enjoy sourcing high quality fabric such as Liberty Tana Lawn and good quality poplin cotton.
How did you begin your making journey?
As a teenager living in rural Wales, I made my own clothes. Later in life I made many clothes for our young children.
What is your favourite thing to make?
I enjoy hand smocking, although it is time-consuming I find it relaxing and find the finished results rewarding.

Do you ever have crafting disasters?
When newly married I tried to cover a basic chair in evening classes. I remember being pleased with the result, only to find the fabric was upside down when fitted!
If you had a crafting wish, what would it be
That the general public becomes more aware and appreciative of well-made handcrafted items such as these sold in Fayre & Square Wimbledon instead of buying cheap, poor quality throwaway goods.
